Student Loans

Chabot College Financial Aid Office has proudly partnered with EdFund, one of the nation's largest leading providers of student loan guarantee services under the Federal Family Education Loan Program, to deliver timely, flexible and efficient customer service to our student loan borrowers.

Loan Application Process

Get a Loan packet at the Financial Aid Office

All students (NEW and RETURNING BORROWERS) requesting to borrow funds through the Federal Student Loan Program at Chabot College are required to pick up a student loan packet at the Financial Aid Office.

Submit required forms

Enclosed in the packet is a Student Loan Request Form and Student Statement of Understanding.  Complete these two forms and turn in to the Financial Aid Office for consideration of a Federal Student Loan.

Read materials and complete your online entrance counseling

After the Financial Aid Office has processed your student loan request, you will receive a letter from our office regarding your loan request, and if eligible, an email  or letter from EdFund with instructions and links to complete the required on-line entrance counseling and choose a lender in your Stafford Master Promissory Note (MPN).

Instructions for this new process will be provided in your student loan packet, HOWEVER, DO NOT begin the online process until you have actually received the email notice from EdFund, as your MPN will not be ready until that time.

Students who are not able to provide an e-mail address on their Student Loan Request Form will receive all notifications from EdFund and the Financial Aid Office by mail. This will delay processing of your student loan.

Informational Loan Sessions

Help is available for students who are having difficulties navigating the EdFund website to complete the entrance counseling. Sessions will be held at the Library, room 119.

Loan Portal

EDFUND Loan Portal helps connect student and parent borrowers with lenders — a one-stop resource of information to help find loans to finance a college education.

One of the most important steps in the loan process is the selection of a lender. As a borrower, you have the right to select any lender that participates in the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program. In an effort to simplify that process for you, your school has provided a list of lenders. You may choose your lender from this list, or you may elect to borrow from any other FFEL Program lender.

By answering a few simple questions, you can get started.

As a borrower, you also have a choice in your guaranty service provider.  If you intend to select a guaranty service provider other than EDFUND, please contact your financial aid office for additional information and guidance.
